An Operating System is the software that communicates with the hardware of a PC and serves as the intermediary between applications and the hardware, which includes peripheral devices such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it transmits requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). A lot like a personal computer, hosting servers also feature an Operating System that acts as a host for all of the software installed on them, which includes script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be set up on a physical one, so it is possible to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host Operating System.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We offer as many as three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are some of the safest and the most reliable OSs you can get and we offer all three of them rather than just 1 since we realize that you might want to install some software which has specific requirements for the Operating System it'll run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a large support community behind it and there're various software programs you can install on the hosting server. Your OS selection will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS if you would like to use one and that's why we offer several Control Panels as well. If you ever decide that you want a different OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the current one and set up the one that you want. We also offer an optional service to keep the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
If you decide to acquire one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the registration page because we want to give you a wider choice for the system environment on the server as different apps can have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and enjoy a stable and risk-free web hosting service. Depending on your decision, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you've selected in the beginning doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you'd like to run. We can also update your OS routinely in order to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
