SSH Telnet
Learn about the Telnet protocol and its usage.
SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol which is used to connect to a web server and conduct various tasks via a command line. The protocol is employed by many expert users, since the info transmitted over it is encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access can be used for lots of things with regards to the type of Internet hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file when the website hosting server allows it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for virtually anything - you may install software or restart particular services including the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is employed mainly with UNIX-like Platforms, but there are clients which enable you to use the protocol if your personal computer is working with a different Operating System as well. The connection is established on TCP port 22 by default and the remote hosting server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though a number of providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting
SSH access is featured with all
Linux shared hosting that we provide. With some of them, it's provided as standard, while with others it is an optional upgrade you can include with several clicks from your hosting CP. You may get SSH access from the section related to it where you will also find the details you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You may pick the password that you will use and, if required, you will be able to change it with a few clicks from the same spot. All the commands that can be used with our shared plans are listed in a help article alongside relevant instances. If the SSH access function is allowed for your account, you will also be able to upload files through your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
The
VPS server packages that we offer come with SSH access as standard, not as an additional upgrade or a function that you should enable. Once your new server is ready, you will be able to connect and start working on your content through the login details which you have entered throughout the order process. A copy of the SSH credentials shall be sent to you via e-mail as well. Since your VPS shall be isolated from the other ones on the physical hosting server, there are no limitations regarding what you can or can't do via SSH. You can download, set up and manage any piece of software which will run on a Linux server, reboot the whole server or just a certain software component, and work with files, folders and databases without any restrictions. All you'll need for that is a console or an SSH client on your end.
